What I like best about the Cannondale CAAD series of bikes, and specifically the Cannondale CAAD 10 is that the company continues to stay with aluminum in the production of the bike. While other bike manufacturers are moving almost exclusively to carbon for the ability to go as light as possible, the Cannondale CAAD 10 stays with aluminum as a premier design element. Aluminum, when used effectively, can be as light weight as needed for the weekend or road warrior. And that's the case with the Cannondale CAAD 10, as the frame only weighs a measly 1,150 grams (or 2.5 pounds). In fact, the entire CAAD 10 road bike, outfitted with Shimano Dura-Ace and Ultegra components and RS80 wheels, weighs just under 16 pounds at 15 4/5.
Cannondale did choose to add a little carbon to the ancillary sections of the Cannondale CAAD 10 to not only reduce the weight of the bike, but also to improve the performance of it on the road. The CAAD 10 bike's fork is fully carbon with a nice design that reduces from 1 1/4" at the head down to 1.125 at the wheel's axis. The carbon dropouts are moved forward on the 2011 model to significantly reduce the amount of vibration the rider feels, providing much needed comfort on those longer rides on bumpier roads.
The Cannondale CAAD 10 also sports carbon in the stem and seatpost with Cannondale's popular C2 series being used in both locations. If looking for full carbon, the C2 is where you want to be (while the C3 is carbon wrapped aluminum). If the CAAD 10 you are purchasing from '11 is new, it should also include a carbon fiber BB30 crank from FSA's SL-K series.
The 2011 Cannondale CAAD 10 road bike finishes off with a fi'zi:k Arione saddle, making for even more comfort on any length ride.
