Known as one of the fastest Triathlon bikes on the market, the Cervelo P2 Triathlon bike is also a very popular Time Trial bike. In fact, the Cervelo P2 has been the top choice for both Triathlon and Time Trial competitors over the last few years! The Cervelo P2 incorporates carbon fiber as the main design material to create one of the lightest bikes available, but also one of the more aero bikes, with the Cervelo P2's original shape and geometry.
Getting more aero is one of the features that Cervelo is most proud of, having switched from airfoils designed by a national review board for aeronautics, to in-house engineering talent. By designing their own, Cervelo is able to test what works best on their bikes in a wind tunnel, leading to a Cervelo P2 that cuts through the air faster than almost any other time trial bike.
Current Cervelo P2 bikes are built around the Shimano Dura-Ace and Ultegra component kits. Dura-Ace 7900 shifters are used on the 2010 P2 model with Shimano Ultegra 6700 derailleurs and Ultegra 6600 cassettes and chains. Shimano R500 wheels are usually built for the Cervelo P2 bikes, but we might recommend a pair of Zipp 404's instead.
Of course, the Cervelo P2 can be purchased as frame-only, allowing for your own build if you so choose, but the recommended components and wheelset have been tested by Cervelo to perform at optimum levels.
