If you need a medium-cost but successful time trial or triathlon bike, then you'll want to take a look at the Cervelo P3 Triathlon bike! While the P2 is a more popular triathlon bike, which you've noticed if you participate in a lot of Tri's, the Cervelo P3 has helped to win more overall Triathlon races than any other bike. And the Cervelo P3 is an award winning bike, having just recently won the 220 Triathlon Bike of the Year award, and being added as a one of the top 20 Tri products in the past 20 years.
The carbon frame of the Cervelo P3 allowed the designers to create a more beautiful frame in general. Simple touches to the frame allow the rider to get down into a fast position easily and then stay there comfortably. Most of this design is in the seattube which has the added benefit of creating more aerodynamics for the rider.
The Cervelo P3 bike has some fairly large tubes, especially the down tube, but because of the carbon, the frame itself is just 3.7 pounds. That makes it lighter than the popular P2, again leading to a faster performance during time trials and triathlons.
Lighter does not mean less stiffness where you need it, though. The Cervelo P3 bike beefed up the bottom bracket to give you more confidence in the pedals that the bike is going to stay firm during the grind. And that's exactly what Cervelo expects, because they took this characteristic from the standard Cervelo road bikes.
You may be one of the only ones in your group that own the Cervelo P3 TT/Triathlon bike. Mostly due to the price but also because people don't think the P3 gives enough of an edge over the P2. However, once you ride it, you will absolutely understand why the P3 can make you a better triathlon performer and give you a good edge in the time trials!
