The best way to get the most bang for you buck in a Felt F-series bike without paying professional bike prices is to take a look at the Felt F5 road bike. The Felt F5 is built with almost the exact same frame as the far more expensive Felt F1 but at about a quarter of the price. As is typical, this price savings is accomplished by using less expensive components. But in the case of the Felt F5, the Shimano 105's do not feel like you are being short changed with your bike purchase.
I will say that the Felt F5 road bike is a very popular bike to purchase as frame only and in a used condition. Basically because of the similar frame to the more expensive bikes, but without the need to purchase the bike with the cheaper components. With the Felt F5 frame, you can fit it to the components you want to use, whether that be more Shimano 105's or SRAM Red comps.
Part of the problem with purchasing lower-priced carbon frames is that there tends to be too much flex in the bottom bracket. This is most notable when the biker really gets into the pedals and frankly its an uncomfortable issue. The Felt F5 does not relay this issue back to the rider and instead is one of the stiffer bottom brackets available. You can be comfortable knowing that when you are ready to hammer away on a hill, the bike will send the right feedback to you.

The company meant for the Felt F5 road bike to be an introductory carbon frame bike for those that are new to the carbon frame experience. Because Felt wants this first foray to be a good experience, the frame is so much more stiff than its counterparts, I'm afraid that once you try the Felt F5 out, you may be extremely disappointed in anything else at this price point. And for that reason, we think the F5 is the right bike for new carbon owners.
